5 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW CAUSE HAIR LOSS

5 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW CAUSE HAIR LOSS

Whenever we ask girls what hair problems they’re suffering from, a majority say they’re suffering from excessive hair loss and don’t know what to do about it. The general assumption is always to assume the worst like “it’s probably genetic” which could be the case, but don’t jump to conclusions before checking on what we’re about to tell you. Hate to break it to you girls, the devil’s in the details; it’s always the little day-to-day things. Don’t make assumptions, consider taking a closer look and examining what you could be doing wrong.

1- Tight Hairstyles & Updos

Here’s a picture worth a thousand words!! If you’re constantly putting your hair up in tight updos like this one, it’s time to give your hair a break. Pulling your hair into very harsh ponytails, buns or any updos will, unfortunately, contribute to severe hair loss. Constantly pulling your hair like this weakens your hair strands and causes a receding hairline on the long run, like we see in this picture. This doesn’t mean you should NEVER put your hair up, but if you’re suffering from hair loss, especially at your hairline, you need to allow it to heal by leaving it down more often.

2- Heat Styling

We’ve all been there and I must say, it is very very tempting. So many of us girls resort to heat styling because it makes our hair look momentarily perfect, but dear lord is it a nightmare in the long run! Excessive usage of heat causes hair to be very brittle, broken and therefore, very prone to falling. Heat tools cause direct damage to the hair follicles, leaving them very weak and cause them to fall out. If you’re constantly using heat styling tools, minimize it drastically and use a heat protectant! Heat is HORRIBLE for your hair.

3- Medication

Yes, you read that right! So many medications can be the cause for your suffering! Medications that could cause hair loss:

1. Blood pressure medication

2.  Cholesterol-lowering drugs

3. Skin medication (for acne, eczema etc)

4. Antidepressants

5. Medication for arthritis or other chronic inflammations

Medication-induced hair loss is serious and rather common but don’t stress, there’s a solution. After reading this, you will probably feel very resentful toward your medicines and your illness as well. Please don’t, there’s always a solution! If you are suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions and are also suffering from hair loss, you just need to start integrating some vitamins or iron medications into your routine in order to balance things out! Please contact your doctor and ask for the appropriate vitamins or products as every case is unique and needs to be handled with care.

4- Poor Diet Choices

What goes in is bound to come screaming out! What we put into our bodies is a HUGE contributing factor to the health of our hair, skin and nails. In the present day, unfortunately, fast food and fast fashion are ruining our health along with our good taste. If you’re constantly eating burgers, pizza and pasta, with little regard to protein, biotin and omega-3 rich foods, your hair doesn’t even stand a chance. Big food corporations have made dinner-in-a-box options all too accessible and we don’t realize how often we do it and ignore what our bodies so desperately need! You need to include omega-3, biotin and protein-rich foods in your diet in order to stimulate hair growth. You can find omega-3 fatty acids in fish, biotin in eggs and protein in meat. Make. Better. Diet. Choices.

5- Emotional Distress

Whether you’re suffering the death of a loved one, going through a breakup, have a stressful job or recovering from an illness, emotional distress can cause significant hair loss. Certain parts of your hair go into a resting phase and fall out suddenly a short while after, when they’ve gone completely inactive. If you’re going through a difficult time right now, please take it easy on yourself and don’t cause further stress by focusing on hair fall. And remember we’re always here for you.

This blog is in no way intended to be a replacement for medical research, it is simply a friendly reminder to be cautious, aware and look out for your hair. We hope this helps!
